During physio there are often other patients there, a large demographic ranging from high school athlete to middle-aged and beyond umm.... overweight bum who has injured themselves after years of neglect (to be blunt).
This particular morning there was an early highschool track athlete, a nonathletic but thin guy in his 30's and myself. During our hellos my physio asked me what I've been up to, and since I've been immobilized with my muscle bruise I've been watching a lot of 'Dexter' and recommended the series to my physio, as I do with mostly everyone. The 30 yr old patient (I don't know his name but for simplicity let's call him Brian) chimed in and was talking about how much he loved the series, as most viewers do. We refrained from talking about any characters or plot details not to spoil it for Dave, my physiotherapist. Brain then went on to recommend "Rome" a mini-series that aired last year. I was intrigued and informed Brian that my boss has also recommended the series.
Unlike our conversation about 'Dexter' Brain felt the need to talk about specific scenes and characters in the mini-series. He selected the following stories to share with me:
"It's a really raw series. Ceaser's sister is worried her son of 13 isn't 'man enough' so she hires a strong male servent to teach her son to be more 'manly'. This is accomplished by teaching her son how to penetrate a women. The servant is to train and watch he son complete this task. The mother threatens to not feed he son dinner until 'he has penetrated a woman'"
"There are two main women in the series who hate each other. One women offers a gift to the other of a male servant holding elaborate crown. The crown is gorgeous embelished with gold and gemstones. The servant presented the crown on a pillow, in the nude. The real gift was not actually the crown, the servant was hung like a horse. They showed everything, it's a really raw series."
(Note: The names of the characters and some details have been changed since I wasn't listening very well)
I found this very disturbing that he felt the need to tell me these stories, and in front of a grade 10. Is it some sort-of weird come-on? I didn't think so since it was clear he and I are both living with our partners. I hope I never see him again.
